STAY SAFE DURING THIS PROLONGED HEATWAVE IN PARTS OF SA

Heatwave warning: Take precautions, as temperatures could reach 40°C
A heatwave is a prolonged period of excessively hot weather, which can be dangerous for both your physical and mental health. Here are some tips to help you stay safe during a heatwave:
- Stay indoors: Try to stay in air-conditioned or well-ventilated areas as much as possible. If you don’t have air conditioning, open windows and use fans to circulate air.
- Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water and avoid drinks that contain caffeine or alcohol, as they can dehydrate you.
- Wear light clothing: Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothes to help keep your body cool.
- Use sunscreen: Protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays by applying sunscreen with a high SPF.
- Take frequent breaks: If you must be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors to cool down.
- Check on vulnerable people: Check on elderly or ill family members, friends, and neighbors to make sure they’re staying cool and hydrated.
- Check weather forecast: Stay informed about the forecast and any heat-related warnings issued by the National Weather Service.
By following these tips, you can stay safe during a heatwave and protect yourself from heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Remember to also keep an eye on local news and follow the instructions issued by the authorities in case of emergency.
